Barcelona’s Best Lunch Deal? Iposa Serves Up Bohemian Budget Bliss

Iposa Restaurant Barcelona, Spain

Iposa Restaurant Barcelona, Spain

Just behind Barcelona’s famous covered market, La Boqueria, is a tiny restaurant serving up what is probably the best deal for lunch in the city. Iposa offers a daily special Monday – Friday for 7.00 Euros, or about $10.00. The daily special is not just one special, but three. Choose from meat, fish or veggies, plus soup as a starter and coffee at the end of the meal. This includes one drink (wine, water, or a soft drink) and bread. This is one of the most stellar bargains I’ve seen in the city center, and believe me, I am always looking for bargains.

Good vs. Evil In Boston

Don't Miss The Dish

Foodie TV fans will recognize the name Anthony Bourdain of the Travel Channel’s “No Reservations” and Eric Ripert of Bravo’s “Top Chef” and Create TV’s “Avec Eric.” Both chefs are giants in the culinary world and enjoy sharing that world with lovers of food. Though they typically do so via books, TV shows and in their own NYC restaurants, this Friday night they are live at Boston’s Symphony Hall.

That’s right. Symphony Hall. They don’t just present musical events there you know. But this one should be music to a foodie’s ears. “Good vs. Evil: An Evening With Anthony Bourdain & Eric Ripert” promises to have both guests swapping stories about food. Bourdain’s readers of Kitchen Confidential already know that he is sure to share behind the scenes tidbits and as world travelers both will have plenty to say about the communities creating the food we love throughout the world and how to explore that variety.

The cheaper seats and the pricey VIP tickets including a meet & greet with the chefs are sold out. However, tickets in the $54 Orchestra range are still available and can be purchased HERE for the only show -8PM on Friday, March 4th.

Cafe Madrid – Dallas, Texas

I heartily recommend the Cava Sangria.

“What do you recommend?”

“Everything is good.”

“Everything is good?  Okay.  But what is particularly good?”

“Everything is good.  Trust me on this.”

“You don’t have a favorite?”

“Everything is good.  Try it all.  You will soon have your own favorite.”

I’m always a bit wary when a bartender tells me “everything is good” when it comes to a restaurant’s food.  After all, he’s there to pour the drinks, not necessarily taste all the goodies.  But in the case of Cafe Madrid, a fun and funky tapas bar in Dallas, Texas, the bartender was right.  Everything was good–and I tried more than my fair share.

I started with the calamari–crisp, tender and perfect.  The only problem was that the portion was way too small.  Next, chorizo in wine and garlic sauce, red peppers with goat cheese, cheese and spinach croquettes, freshly baked bread…everything we ordered was delicious.  But my favorite tapas of the night was the grilled quail in pomegranate sauce.  A little tricky to eat–the quail bones are a bit small, your only option is to to pick it up and gnaw away–but you’ll have no problem doing so since it tastes so good.

Surprises in Palau Saverdera

Almond Trees in Bloom in Spain

Almond Trees in Bloom in Spain

I live in the city and sometimes forget what season it is because of the lack of green in Barcelona. When I can’t imagine what stillness sounds like, I take off for the weekend to the Catalan countryside. On a recent jaunt I stopped to spend the night in Palau Saverdera, a town with population 1,400 in a remote area of NE Spain.
