Bistro 24 Kitchen is Open Late

Bistro 24 Kitchen is Open Late

Living in San Francisco many years now means that I have seen my share of restaurants open, do a bang up business, and then close. When this happens in my neighborhood I get upset for a while. Usually. This time I was happy to see a restaurant close, because its replacement has only been open two weeks and rocks! I’m speaking about Bistro 24, a new restaurant in the old Miss Millie’s location for you Noe Valley weekend brunch regulars.

Chef Pierre Mange and Stefano Coppola formerly of Lupa’s, have partnered to launch Bistro 24. They are serving up American comfort food, using local and organic ingredients, and making it available until midnight Tuesday thought Saturday!

Walking into the space, I love that the layout has not changed but the colors and furnishings have been updated with a warm palette of browns. It’s very soothing and during our late dinner the music was a cool 60’s selection dialed low.  Since this part of 24th Street is closer to homes, I’m sure the neighbors will appreciate that given the late kitchen hours.

Tasty Fried Chicken Livers

The menu has lots of plates to be shared, about sixteen ranging from $5-$12.00.  We started with the chicken livers and were very pleased.  They were breaded and fried along with some onions, and they gave us a huge serving.  We also had their baked macaroni with ham and four kinds of cheese. Dee-lish-ous!

They had five entrees and we went with the $18 family style fried chicken.  It was cooked very well and had a nice coating that had hints of celery salt and other southern spices.  Definitely not heavy on the corn starch and flour like mine.  We loved it along with its watermelon slaw and sweet corn custard.  I can see why this is already a favorite among crew and customers.

We loved our experience and will be back.  This end of 24th Street needs a late night place for good food and for lingering before heading home.  Our only hesitation so far was around the wine by the glass list. The prices were a bit steep for the quality, with most glasses at $8.00 and $9.00 each.  Given how tasty the food was, we’ll still return and next time get a beer.
