When in Barcelona with a craving for seafood, book a table at one of the restaurants along Port Vell inside Pl. de Pau. This gorgeous setting is easy to get to from the city center and offers many dining choices. Here are a few worth a reservation for lunch or dinner.
LA GAVINA: This is the place to go to treat yourself to a fabulous seafood lunch on their shaded terrace. Order their muscles ‘a la marinera’ to start off or a plate of ’buñuelos de bacalao’ (fried dough balls with cod fish…basically). Follow these tasty appetizers with a Catalan specialty: ‘Fideuà’ with clams and squid. Fideuà is like paella, but made with noodles and served with alioli. I like it better than paella and could eat it several times a week, but don’t. For dessert sample their lime mousse with chocolate and orange sauce. Yum.
With wine, a multi-course dinner for two will be well over $100.

MERENDERO DE LA MARI: Right near La Gavina, this popular eatery has inside and outdoor seating. On a summer day it is sweet to sit outside and watch the boats on the water while sipping white wine (or something else cold!). Try their razor clams and their seafood croquetas while waiting for a main course of black rice paella in cuttlefish ink.
Much like La Gavina, a multi-course dinner for two will be well over $100.
