Hidden in a Strip Mall

Europe’s Best Deli is a well kept secret here in Lancaster, California. It’s on a major thoroughfare here in town but, it’s over here on the west side in the little community of Quartz Hill. The owners are actually from Germany, if I remember correctly, and are super nice. They even let me in early to take pictures because, of course I forgot my camera last time.

I like to stop in for a snack after I pick up my oldest from school, he’s partial to a turkey and cheese sandwich, hold the mustard please. We have a few places we like to go, but this one is within walking distance.

Lunch time is particularly busy at the deli. Businesses know it’s well worth the extra few minutes, to send someone out to the deli. I’ve actually waited in line behind a variety of road workers, construction workers, high school students and business folk.

Every-time we visit the deli we peruse the dry goods shelf. It has a mixture of candy, biscuits, lime curd and spotted dick. I personally like the McVities Chocolate covered Digestives, they are delicious dipped in coffee or tea. Don’t be scared, they are cookies from England.

My husband likes to order the roast beef French Dip. He likes it because it’s “good”. He really did just say that when I asked, thanks hon. He then amended his statement with a “It has lots of meat and the au jus is yummy.” The au jus is served warm, which just adds to the quality if the sandwich.

What to choose?

I’m a sucker for really good pastrami and Europe’s Best Deli has good pastrami. You get to choose your bread, cheese and all your fixings for your sandwich. I like the mustard they use and the fact that they use red onion, plus the bread is always fresh.

The rest of the menu is just as good as the sandwiches mentioned above. They slice all the meat to order and they even have a few tables inside and out to sit down and enjoy your sandwich.

The deli has the capacity for catering and will deliver platters and such to your office. It’s also a great place to stop if you’re headed out to have a picnic.
