La Terrasse in San Francisco Falls Short of Its View
A relaxing restaurant for a casual weekend or early dinner is La Terrasse Restaurant in San Francisco. They are located opposite the main post in the Presidio, which allows you a nice view of the bay. Note: if you go on a sunny afternoon, call ahead because it will be crowded. When we went we sat near dressed up seniors mixed together with dressed down tourists, so you can probably get away with wearing what you feel most comfortable in. Worst case, they have seating at the bar.
This was our first dining experience here, after months of cruising by at various times and days. We had nice evening weather so decided to stop by for an early dinner. After ten minutes of slight chaos at the front desk, we were seated. I think the hostess had a difficult time with the phones, us and random diners asking her questions all at the same time. Where I had serious trouble though, was with the fact that no one came to our table to offer us menus or ask if we wanted a drink. We waited ten long minutes before my husband finally stopped a waiter.
Once we had our menus we choose a glass of wine, partially because their bartender and bar set up didn’t look like it would produce the icy cold martini we wanted. However the wines we chose were very good and very French which made us very happy. I enjoyed my chilled Sancerre wine while waiting for the starters.
We shared mussels with frites that were good. The fries were salted well and skinny which made them crispy. Our entrees arrived and while I got the duck confit, my husband went for the hamburger with Roquefort cheese. He definitely won that battle. My entire entree could have benefited from some of that butter found in Des Moines. Everything on my plate was bland or dry. Ick. My husband on the other hand, had a great burger with more fries.
Wanting to end on a high note, we ordered desserts. Our lemon souffle was very fluffy and lemony, a winner. We also had a great apple tart. Sadly, easy parking and a nice view isn’t enough to get a return visit from us when there are other choices like the Presidio Social Club or Pres A Vi.
