While Segons de Mercat Restaurant is not right on the port, it is close by, tucked into Barcelona’s port-side barrio, La Barceloneta.
Walking into Segons de Mercat, diners are met by slick squid, bright shrimp, coin-sized clams, and a variety of Mediterranean fish that I have yet to learn the names of. This seafood bounty is laid out on ice in front of an open kitchen plan. As the name suggests, the fish at Segons de Mercat is market-fresh, no doubt about it.
Whether you order a plate of garlic shrimp or the fish of the day, you will be pleased with you lunch. Head over to this small restaurant around 1:30 or 2pm and grab a seat in the front along with other office workers who come for a mid-day seafood feast.
Lunch at Segons will run you between 15 and 20 Euros, depending on what kind of wine you order. The last time I was there they were not offering the typical Menu del Dia, like most restaurants do at lunch. However, they do have daily specials, so make sure to check these out.
Segons de Mercat is also open for dinner. After a scruptious meal, head over to the Gothic Quarter of the city and enjoy some of Barcelona’s infamous nightlife. Or, if you go to Segons for lunch, walk the boardwalk afterwards along the Med down to Hotel Arts and the Frank Gehry fish.
