As anyone who has seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding will tell you, Portokali is the Greek word for Orange. It also happens to be the name of a restaurant in Argasi, on the Ionian Island of Zakynthos aka Zante.
Portokali Art Bar, Zante, Greece
If you judge the orange by the cover, it looks to be a fun place with fresh cooked seasonal food and good service. What makes it even more refreshingly authentic are their descriptions.
Take a look under Dring [sic] - “Portokali is open all year long… unless it is closed. The later happens rarely but it does happen… and when it does… it does not last too long, just a few days. So don’t worry about it.”
Portokali looks to be a pretty hip establishment. They call themselves an Art-Bar, with live entertainment in the lounge-bar, and plenty of other nightlife options in the vicinity, not to mention the beach nearby. Exhibitions, parties and shows take place at the Portokali all year round.
It’s the kind of place where, depending on the time of day (or night) and your state of mind, you can have either a coffee or a cocktail. They also serve exotic salads, hot and cold dishes and desserts well into the night.
If Zante sounds like a place where you wouldn’t mind spending a weekend or two, you might want to consider making your stay even more of an experience by staying at one of the Farm houses in Zakynthos.
