Tarnished legacy

Years ago, my family went to The Char for special occasions when we were in Beckley. I loved the setting. The food was outstanding and the service impecccable. My father passed away in June. During a visit to the area for a family reunion, we took a shot at getting into he restaurant.

longstanding quality

The Char is a town landmark. Sitting off the main hiway, down a curvy road, this serene casual/dressy resturant has been a family business for nearly 40 yrs. The dining room is quiet, facing a lovely pond and the ambience allows for actual dinner conversation without the need to shout across the ... a user of Restaurantica. Not a good choice.

The restaurant is very small and crowded, people bump into you while your eating and all the staff runs around. The service was good. I had the crab cakes, and I have had crab cakes everywhere. Good, but not 5 star.

This is the best restaurant in Beckley, WV. That said, it is not a 5 star establishment. The food is good, but mostly average. The service is excellent, but the atmosphere is lacking.
